    Buildings came first

Six years to achieve my M.Arch degree at the University of Colorado, then three more designing national park lodges and various buildings around Denver. Architecture taught me the user centered design discipline I still use today.

    Solo Trip Around the World

I packed one bag and spent 10 months crossing 21 countries, volunteering in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Cambodia along the way. I met my wife in a hostel in Vietnam and came up with an idea for a travel app while riding a motor bike for a month from Saigon to Hanoi.

    Journey Driven in born

I was obsessed with the idea of bringing my dream to life. An offline GPS travel tracker + journal, called Journey Driven. I had met with friends in UX, took a 3 month immersive UX bootcamp, and started a company.

    The startup grind

Journey Driven grew to over 120,000 monthly active users, all while working a full time UX job. For 18 months, I worked from 5am-9am and 7pm-10pm, with a full time job wedged between. Maybe the most raw chapter of growth and grit in of career, and it paid off handsomely when it eventually got the attention of GoPro.

    Water world

Outside of work you can find my wife, son, and I in our campervan at the beach surfing, or somewhere on a boat fishing, freediving, and spearfishing. I’ve also published a children’s book about the ocean called “Sebastian and the Seabass.”
